Father's Day---A Charlotte, NC.Realtor Reflection Back

Sunday is Father's Day. I like to wish all Father's out there a Happy Father's Day. As I was thinking what to write about today I pondered on my role as a Father, and a son .I thought all day on how my Dad helped shape me to become the person I am today and what I do to as a father to help shape my children. This made writing this that much harder as this is my first Father's day without my Dad. He passed away last August after a long battle with cancer..... A day does not go by that I do not think of him and how much he meant to me and the influence he has had on my life and made me the man, father, and husband I am today... I owe a lot to my Dad. He was a religious person and believed that living by certain rules….One golden rule he lived by and instilled in me since I was very young was to” treat others as you would want to be treated”. So simply put; yet how many of us actually do? Every time I talk to a home seller or a home buyer that vision of my father telling me that phrase comes into my head. It has made me successful in my Real Estate career and my life. Other traits I carry with me courtesy of my Dad are honesty and integrity. I once heard a wise man say "you can never forget the truth but a lie is something that can be forgotten". Later in life I understood the meaning behind it. If you lie then you are bound to get caught later on; because one lie turns into another lie and soon you will forget the first lie you said and get caught. But if you always tell the truth you never will forget what you said. When you are honest you not only will get respect but you will always have your integrity. Last thing my Father taught me through his actions was hard work and a honest day pay.. My father believed in an old phrase that my grandfather’s use to say all the time. “Give a man an honest day work and you will make an honest day pay”. I believe that is still true today and try to live by that rule in my life on a daily basis. I work very hard in Real Estate to be as successful as I can. In addition I strive to be the best Dad i can be to my lovely children and the best husband I can be to my loving wife. As I reflect on Father’s Day and await the day; I realize I am more like my father than I thought I was….and that is something I am proud of. Our fathers have a significant role in shaping who we are; whether we realize it or not. So, on Father's Day thank your Dad for making you the person that you are today. Do not wait because tomorrow might not be there.... I am sad that this will be the first Father's Day I will celebrate without my Dad. But I know he is proud of me for the man I have become. My hope was that I would be like him. My family says he lives in me and I hope my children one day can say the same thing about me with a smile on their face and a warm feeling in their heart.
